There's an air of condentment and social harmony. However, it was not always like this. Fifty years ago Paralimni was typical rural community, whose economy was based on its low agricultural production.

The independence of Cyprus in 1960 found Paralimni entering a period of economic development and prosperity. The poor, rural community became a developed, advanced and prosperous township, which lacked none of the conveniences of a town.
